Energy Efficient Outcomes

We started off with an original mid 70’s brick veneer home.  The home had a lot of holes, gaps, leaks and single glazed windows not sealed to the envelope (external walls).  On this home, we opted to not carry out a pre-start test, however based on the CSIRO report where homes of a similar age and construction where tested we expect the air change rate was between 21-30 and likely an energy rating of around 2 stars.

The house exceeded the requirements of the 6.7 Star rating. Most notably it achieved an air exchange rate of 7.3 per hour. The benchmark is 15!  You can see from the table taken from the full report that the house exceeds the UK Normal Practice.

This is a great outcome for an older home, particularly as budget contraints held us back from doing some more extreme air sealing methods, the outcome for the home owners is a much improved home that will exceed their expectations for winter and summer performance!
